Kanpur: A couple in Kanpur duped more than two dozen senior citizens to invest ₹35 crore to travel in a time machine ‘imported’ from Israel, which could reverse the aging process. The couple, which consisted of Rashmi and Rajeev Dubey, were running a therapy center named ‘Revival World’ in Kidwai Nagar; this couple was using the trick of ‘oxygen therapy’ inside this bogus time machine.
The Dubeys concentrated on the senior citizens, claiming that emissions in Kanpur were aging the elders and proposing to rejuvenate them via therapy. In each of the sessions in the claimed time machine, people were charged as much as ₹90,000. The operation had developed into a pyramidal selling model for clients over the period as the ACP, Anjali Vishwakarma, said that the con artists offered rebates to new customers who would bring in other customers.
One of the complainants is Renu Singh Chandel, along with two other women whose complaint led to the registration of the case against the couple. Chandel also narrated how she agreed to introduce others for a free session, and several people fell for it, becoming victims of the fake service. Until now, the police have documented only 25 such instances, but that number is expected to grow as more survivors come out into the open due to increased awareness.
Police are further conducting initiatives to trace more victims, as Rashmi and Rajeev are still at large. An FIR has been filed against them, and airport passport authorities have been alerted so that they cannot run away from the country. The case shows how far scammers can go to tap into people’s fears and needs, such as the desire to regain youthful looks.
