The Excise State Task Force (STF) in Hyderabad in a major clampdown against the trade of illegal drugs arrested five people including two alleged peddlers in wave of separate raids conducted during the night of Wednesday. Based on precise intelligence input, the officials of STF conducted raids at various places in the city recovering narcotic substances like brown sugar, MDMA, and ganja.
Officials of the Excise Department add that two of the arrested have their origins in the Malda district in West Bengal. They were caught in Khajaguda where they purportedly had come to sell brown sugar. A sum of 66 grams of the prohibited substance was taken off their possession. The police suspect there was a larger interstate system of the drug trafficking included in the suspects.
During one more raid in Serilingampally, STF officers got a man with 5.14 grams of MDMA, a synthetic psychoactive substance, which goes by the name of ecstasy. It is a drug commonly affiliated with the party culture, with an increase in urban drug circles and with being heavily controlled by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Furthermore, two other operations were carried in other areas by the STF whereby 510 grams and 1.2 kilograms of ganja were seized after arresting two other suspects. The suspects had been arrested in the process of transporting or about to sell the cannabis-based drug, which is normally taken and experienced its psychoactive outcome.
There have been altogether four individual cases filed under several sections of NDPS Act. They all five have been arrested and interrogated.
An official of the Excise Department also said that the matter is under further investigation to exactly establish the bigger supply chain and whether the supply is part of any organized drug trafficking syndicates operating in and around Hyderabad.
