The case of the disastrous murder of three young sisters in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has been investigated by the police and has revealed that the girls were allegedly emotionally distressed because their father had taken away their mobile phones due to their alleged obsession with the Korean culture and spending too much time on the screen.
The 16-year-old, 14-year-old, and 11-year-old victims died after they fell off the ninth-floor window of their apartment in the early morning hours of the day, around 2 am. The case has attracted a lot of attention to the issue of addiction to online games and the mental effects of excessive use of digital technology on children. Police reported a suicide note, which had been found at the location, that stated that the girls connected so strongly with the Korean culture and were engaged in online task-based games.
According to the officials, the father had acquired two mobile telephones for the eldest daughter approximately three months ago, and the other one for the 14-year-old approximately two weeks prior to the incident. Growing tension, however, is said to have ensued in the family after he sold the phones because he felt that his daughters were being too attached to watching Korean dramas, playing online games, and communicating with online friends located in other countries.
According to the police informants, the girls were found to be depressed after the phones were removed because they could no longer access the online games or be able to interact with their Korean friends. The cybercrime unit is currently trying to track the purchasers of the sold mobile phones by their IMEI numbers, in an effort to retrieve the data on the Korean applications of the girls.
The same night on which the incident occurred, the sisters supposedly stole the phone of their mother but could not use the Korean app. Forensic teams confiscated the device, and they did not detect any evidence of the app being used. According to the police, the investigation is in progress, and several directions are under consideration, such as family relationships, online life, and the forensic audit.
