In a major crackdown on international drug trafficking, the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a key suspect in a drug trafficking network worth ₹13,000 crore. The Special Cell apprehended Tilak from Sikkim.
According to media reports, police said the case involved the seizure of 1,290 kilograms of cocaine and mephedrone, and 40 kilograms of Thai marijuana. This seizure exposed an international drug cartel with links to Pakistan, Britain, Malaysia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and India.
The police’s Special Cell has busted this entire network by arresting accused Tilak Prasad Sharma. So far, 17 accused have been arrested in this case, while several foreign handlers are still at large. The accused is 35 years old and a resident of East Pendam, Sikkim. According to the police, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by a Delhi court, following which an interstate operation was launched to apprehend him.
Police investigations have revealed that when key members of the cartel were arrested in Delhi in October 2024, the gang leader instructed Sharma to change his travel route. He was told to travel from Thailand to Sri Lanka, then Nepal, and then India to avoid security agencies. Sharma acted as a courier in this network. He often brought Thai marijuana from Thailand to India via suitcases. After reaching Delhi, the contraband was handed over to a man named Himanshu, who is said to be an associate of another accused, Tushar Goyal. Police also recovered two suitcases containing Thai marijuana from a warehouse in Mahipalpur.
