A man, absconding about for nine years, has been arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the case in which he is accused of slitting his wife’s throat in the Ranhola area of the capital. A manhunt went on for the accused, Sunil Kumar, who was finally nabbed from Sheikhupura in Bihar, officials said Monday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aditya Gautam said that Sunil was a proclaimed offender and had a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head.
Murder Case Dates Back to 2016
On October 18, 2016, police discovered the body of a woman with her throat slit inside a locked room in Ranhola, stuffed inside a plastic sack. The landlord noted the foul smell and reported the incident to the police when he came across it.
Upon investigation, it was found that Sunil Kumar was the main suspect. For nearly a decade, he had managed to evade arrest, and fled the scene with his four-year-old daughter.
Extensive Police Probe Leads to Arrest
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police re-opened the case and conducted a fresh probe with regard to revisiting the crime scene and field investigations of the entire locality, a number of witnesses, etc. Their efforts ended in Bihar and they were supposed to have found Sunil hiding there.
Police, which had been on the hunt for Sunil Kumar for a long time, caught him from Sheikhupura and returned him to Delhi to face further legal proceedings.
Sunil Confesses to the Crime
Sunil confessed that he had murdered his wife during interrogation. The whereabouts of his daughter is the first question authorities are now investigating, as well as the last place he had been in the past nine years.
Closely following the case is the way law enforcement agencies will always ensure that criminals do not flee from justice for as long as they try.
