A businessman aged 52 years was found unconscious and later declared dead in a shooting incident while he was on a morning walk in Shahdara East Delhi on Saturday. The police also said that the deceased, Sunil Jain, who was into utensil business, was attacked in Farsh Bazar near the Yamuna Sports Complex.

Two bike riders attacked Jain and fired shots at him repeatedly, although he remains unidentified. The businessman, who was said to have been on his scooter when the attack happened, was seriously injured. When he was rushed to the nearest hospital, he had some serious complications and died shortly after. An experienced police officer said that the attackers escaped right away from the scene and that efforts were underway to capture them.

This incident has drawn a debate on the current state of lawlessness in the capital afresh. AAP national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah for Delhi’s crime upsurge. On the social media podium X, Kejriwal accused Shah of inefficient handling with Delhi security. Lifting a quote from: “Amit Shah Ji has ruined Delhi. This city has turned into the wild under him. They accused the BJP of inability to rein in criminal elements. Many people should get up together and speak up,” Kejriwal had written.

The event overwhelmed the community and people of the city, giving a negative signal about the security of normal citizens. It is now exigent upon authorities to not only solve the case immediately but also to act in a bid to reduce increasing cases of criminality in Delhi. However, political crises remain high since parties shift the blame to each other for the current state of affairs of law and order in the capital. The police case still dredges on while the authorities continue to search for the perpetrator of the evil act.
