In Bengaluru Police arrested two people who were reportedly making obscene chats and death and rape threats to ex-Mandya MP and widely popular actor Ramya aka Divya Spandana. This arrest follows an official complaint filed by the actor earlier this week against a wave of abusive messages that she received through online platforms. The police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, in his address to the media on Saturday, confirmed that eleven new suspects have been identified and will be apprehended soon, who were directly involved in everything.

On July 28, Ramya filed a complaint with the Bengaluru Police over 43 accounts of social media oriented towards her that issued threats and made vulgar comments against her. The case of abuse is said to have begun following a news item she posted on July 24 in regard to the murder case of Renukaswamy, which is in progress in the Supreme Court. Ramya had, in a post, condemned the alleged perpetrators and asked them to bring the case to justice on behalf of the victim and the victim’s family, which supposedly sparked the online hate campaign. Interestingly, Kannada actor Darshan is one of the main accused in the case.

The troublemakers were tracked down by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and the social media surveillance team, who carried out a wide-scale investigation after the complaint. By establishing the accounts and computer monitoring, police narrowed down to 13 active accounts involved in the abuse campaign, and two men were successfully arrested in neighbouring districts.

He was asked whether the arrested people or those identified were the fans of actor Darshan, and Commissioner Singh said that this aspect is still under investigation. He guaranteed that the CCB and cybercrime police are trying everything possible to get all perpetrators jailed and online spaces made safer not only for public figures but also for citizens. More arrests will also occur as the investigation is ongoing.
