MUMBAI: The rupee appreciated 9 paise to close at 82.15 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday, as crude oil prices retreated from elevated levels.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.21 against the dollar, then rose to 82.16, registering a rise of 9 paise over its previous close.
On Wednesday the Rupee closed at a more-than-two-week low against the greenback currency. It closed at 82.2250 to the U.S. dollar, its lowest level since April 3.
The dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.08 per cent to 101.88. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures declined 1.65 per cent to USD 81.75 per barrel.
