MUMBAI: The Indian currency Rupee gained 11 paise to close at 81.57 provisionally on Thursday against a soft US Dollar.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the domestic currency opened strong at 81.54, but lost ground to quote an intraday low of 81.74 against the greenback.
On Wednesday, the rupee settled at 81.68 against the US dollar.
The dollar index, which gauges the strength of the US Dollar against a basket of six currencies, declined 0.17 percent to 103.01.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.92 percent to USD 83.44 per barrel.
Meanwhile, gold prices depreciated by Rs 105 costing Rs 56,082 per 10 grams. Silver also declined by Rs 572 to Rs 68,754 per kilogram.
