Mumbai: With the surge in oil prices, the domestic currency at the interbank forex exchange on Thursday fell sharply to its record low. The Dollar on the international front fell against a basket of major currencies on Thursday after rising 0.7 per cent the previous day, its biggest single day jump in a week.
A depreciation of 28 paise settled the Indian rupee at 81.90 provisionally against the greenback. The forex exchange was closed on Wednesday on the occasion of Dussehra. However, the Brent crude value rose to a three-week high of $ 93.99 per barrel, after a cartel of oil producers in Saudi Arabia agreed to drastic production cuts.
Meanwhile, gold domestically prices jumped by Rs 497 to Rs 52,220 per 10 grams. In the previous trade, the yellow metal had settled at Rs 51,723 per 10 grams. Silver, however, slipped by Rs 80 to Rs 61,605 per kg from Rs 61,685 per kg.
