NEW DELHI: The Indian Rupee plunged on Friday by 14 paise to close at 82.84 provisionally against the US Dollar.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82.77 against the greenback and finally settled for the day at 82.84 (provisional), registering a fall of 14 paise over its previous close of 82.70.

During the session, the domestic unit witnessed an intra-day high of 82.73 and a low of 82.85 against the American dollar.

The Dollar Index which measures the strength of the dollar against a basket of six currencies was trading at 0.59 percent higher at 104.47. The Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures declined by 1.75 percent to USD 83.65 percent per barrel.

Gold prices over the past few days have been registering a decline. 10 grams of gold at the national capital today declined by Rs 285 to Rs 55,950. The Silver also tumbled Rs 620 to Rs 65,005 per kg.
