New Delhi: The Ministry of Finance, while answering a question in Parliament, said that even today 10 and 20 rupee coins and notes are being printed and circulated in the country. The Finance Ministry informed that till 31 December 2024, 2,52,886 lakh 10 rupee notes are circulating in the market, which are worth Rs 25289 crore. At the same time, till 31 December 2024, 79,502 lakh 10 rupee coins are present in the market in the country, which are worth Rs 7950 crore.
New 20 rupee notes are still being printed
Along with this, the Finance Ministry was asked whether printing of new 20 rupee notes has been banned in the country. Responding to the question, the Finance Ministry said that no, this is not the case. That is, it is clear that even though you are seeing less 10 rupee and 20 rupee notes and coins in the market, they are still in circulation. The news of its ban is completely misleading. Also, the government has no intention of banning it.
20 rupee coins were issued for the first time in 2020
Let us tell you that the government had issued a 20 rupee coin for the first time in 2020. At that time, the government had said that the 20 rupee coin would be a polygon with 12 edges and would have a grain shape. Apart from this, a new series of one, two, five and ten rupee coins will also be issued, which will be in circular design and on which the value will be written in Hindi script.
