The largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited, Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani has resigned as the Director of Reliance Jio. The resignation is effective from June 27, 2022 and the reins of India’s largest telecom operator will now be lead by Mukesh’s elder son Akash Ambani. Akash Ambani, who was a non -executive Director, was unanimously appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Meanwhile, Mukesh Ambani will continue to head Jio Platforms Ltd. which owns all Jio digital services.
The company released a statement acknowledging Akash’s involvement in the development of new technologies and placed confidence in his leadership for making the data and technology accessible to all. Akash is an Economics Graduate from Brown University in USA.
Further, the board at its meeting also appointed two independent Directors and a Managing Director for a period of five years commencing June 27. Raminder Singh Gujral amd KV Chowdary will now be referred as the Independent Directors while Pankaj Mohan Pawar has been appointed the Managing Director of Reliance Jio.
As of April 2022, Mukesh Ambani’s Net Worth is 7.8 Lakh Crores which puts him at the 9th spot in the Worlds’ Richest People list.
