New Delhi: While the nation awaits its union budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman adhered to the tradition of meeting the President. At the meeting, President Droupade Murmu offered the finance minister curd and sugar as a customary tradition representing good luck.
“Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt Nirmala Sitharaman along with Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan before presenting the Union Budget. The President extended her best wishes to the Union Finance Minister”, wrote Droupadi Murmu on X.
Shortly after the finance minister announces the budget, she will also announce the budget for the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This will be the fifth budget for the state since the abrogation of Article 360.
Indian Railways and the roadways are likely to see a bump in the capex allocation. Particularly for Railway, Budget 2024 was expected to focus on safety measures in the light of recent accidents while it also mentions the new upcoming economic corridors, and enhancement of passenger experience through new trains like Vande Bharat, Vande Bharat sleeper, and Amrit Bharat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi explained the Union Budget 2024-25 a milestone budget of the Amrit Kaal. He claimed that the government is working tirelessly to accomplish the guarantees promised. At the same time, PM Modi alluded the Opposition protests during the special session of the Parliament and accused it of trying to muzzle his voice.
“This budget will set the direction of the next five years of the current government and will lay a foundation for achieving the dream of Viksit Bharat by 2047”, said the prime minister on the budget.
