New Delhi: Agnivesh Agarwal, son of Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal, has passed away. He was only 49 years old. He was admitted to a hospital for treatment after meeting with an accident while skiing, where he died of cardiac arrest in New York on Wednesday. Anil Agarwal gave this information in a social media post. Agnivesh was on the board of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), a Vedanta Group company.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the untimely passing of Agnivesh Agarwal, son of Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal, describing the loss as “deeply shocking and saddening”.

Responding to Anil Agarwal’s emotional post on X announcing his son’s demise, the Prime Minister said, “The untimely passing of Shri Agnivesh Agarwal is deeply shocking and saddening. The depth of your grief is evident in this touching tribute. Praying that you and your family find continued strength and courage. Om Shanti.”

She further wrote, “After a skiing accident in the United States, he was recovering at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. We thought everything was over, but fate had other plans. Our son was taken from us suddenly due to cardiac arrest. To me, he was not just my son; he was my friend, my pride, my world. The family is distraught by this loss. Kiran and I are devastated.”

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal’s journey to becoming a metal king began almost from his birth. Born in 1954 into a Marwari family in Patna, he attended a government school. His father, Dwarka Prasad Agarwal, was a small-time aluminum conductor businessman. He helped his father in his business. At the age of 19, he moved to Mumbai in search of a better future.
