Operation Sindoor triggered a major sell-off on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) during early trading hours when India launched their overnight military operation targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Early market trading produced a 6,272-point or 6% drop that ranked as one of Pakistan’s most severe one-day index movements in recent times for the KSE-100 benchmark index.

The sudden increase in geopolitical tension throughout the region caused investors to enact panic selling, which drove the index to its intraday minimum at 112076.38 points. Several hours post-air raids found PSX showed continued instability and displayed no indication of market recovery. PSX users found a website announcement indicating “maintenance activities will continue until the site returns”, which heightened market doubts.

The dramatic market downturn exists because India launched a targeted military operation which struck terror facilities across their border. The air strikes launched during Wednesday’s early hours targeted terror groups which operated from Pakistani territory and the region of PoK. Strikes involved precise operations on facilities connected to major terrorist entities throughout the region.

The recent military advances have escalated serious tensions between Pakistan and India, which both possess nuclear weapons. The news of military aircraft overhead and Loc ceasefire disruptions greeted citizens throughout both nations at dawn. Market volatility in India caused the Sensex index to move from its peak of 80,844.63 to its lowest point at 79,937.48 throughout the day. During the day’s trading, the Nifty moved between a high of 24,449.60 and a low of 24,220 before reaching its peak.

Market analysts predict ongoing market instability across the region while cautioning investors to approach investments carefully because of increasing geopolitical risks.
