New York: Google removed more than 173 thousand bad developers in the year 2022 from the Google Play Store to ensure no malicious application exists on their platform. This report was given by the tech giant on 28 April, 2023 and it also increased the level of identification required by the new developers to have their applications published.
With the help of its team, Google was able to remove 1.43 million applications that didn’t follow its terms and policies. Additionally, Google has stopped USD 2 billion in transactions over these applications to ensure that people’s money won’t get wasted over such fraudulent and malware applications.
In a blog post, Google said that “We continued to partner with SDK providers to limit sensitive data access and sharing, enhancing the privacy posture of over one million applications on Google Play.”
Google also revealed that the frequent Android version updates and security improvements had helped the platform to identify the applications which even ask for some sensitive permissions over one’s device. In 2022, Google fixed 500 thousand security errors in the applications.
