ICICI Bank, a private sector financier, has stated that it has made it possible for its non-resident Indian (NRI) clients to rapidly make UPI payments in India using their international phone numbers. By scanning any Indian QR code, send money to a UPI ID, Indian cellphone number, or Indian bank account. Through the iMobile Pay mobile banking applications, the bank has made this service available.
Ten nations offer this facility: the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
“With this service, the NRI customers of the bank can make payments for their utility bills and merchant and e-commerce transactions with their international mobile number linked with their NRE or NRO bank account held with ICICI Bank in India,” ICICI Bank noted in a statement.
ICICI Bank stated that in order to provide this service, it has taken advantage of the global infrastructure established by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to enable easy UPI usage internationally.
Follow these six simple steps to use iMobile Pay to enable UPI on an international phone number.
Step 1: Open the iMobile Pay app and log in.
Step 2: Select “UPI Payments.”
Step 3: Confirm the phone number.
Step 4: Click on Manage > My Profile.
Step 5: Generate a new UPI ID (choose one of the recommended possibilities).
Step 6: Choose the account number and click “Submit.”
We are thrilled to be working with NPCI to introduce iMobile Pay’s UPI service for foreign mobile numbers. Our NRI customers who live in ten countries no longer have to convert to an Indian mobile number in order to use UPI for payments, according to a statement from Sidharatha Mishra, Head of ICICI Bank’s Digital Channels and Partnerships.
