On Friday, Pakistan declared that it had detained four members of a militant group suspected of carrying out this week’s deadly suicide bombing in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, which the government claims was launched by militants across the border in Afghanistan. The explosion that happened on Tuesday outside the court complex of the city resulted in the death of 12 people and injured dozens more. Late, its group was attacked by a group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is a group that has been increasing its operations in recent months.

The officers report that the arrested persons are associated with the TTP and were instrumental in the planning and execution of the bombing. According to the statement of Islamabad, the group was backed and mentored at all levels by the leadership of TTP that was based in Afghanistan. Law enforcers reported that the suspects who were arrested are the suspected leader of the cell and three other members who were directly engaged in the implementation of the attack.

The government termed the arrests a big breakthrough, saying that the investigation had revealed evident cross-border coordination. According to an allegation made constantly by Pakistan, the Taliban administration of Afghanistan harbours, or gives safe operational space to TTP groups, which is always denied by Kabul. This most recent event will probably contribute to the current conflicts between the two neighbouring nations.

The search operations by security forces are still on to trace more suspects who might have helped the network. In the meantime, the authorities have tightened security measures in major installations in Islamabad, after they received a warning that there is a high possibility of another attack. The government claimed that the arrest of the suspects is a show of its determination to eliminate every terror cell that has its eyes on the country, but emphasised that further regional cooperation was needed to check cross-border militancy.
