Late last night, a severe fire broke out at a fruit storage warehouse in the vegetable market at Brihaspati Bazaar, the judicial capital of Chhattisgarh, resulting in the rapid spread of the fire and the destruction of goods worth lakhs.

After being informed about the situation, teams from the Fire Brigade and Civil Lines Police Station rushed to the location. The fire took several hours to bring it under control, but eventually Fire Brigade personnel were able to contain it and stop it from moving to other stores and stalls. However, by this time, many of the commodities were already burned to ashes.

Witnesses stated that the fire could be seen from a considerable distance, along with smoke further causing panic among fruit traders and nearby inhabitants. Fortunately, there have been no reports of any human casualties at this time.

The cause of the fire hasn’t yet been determined but authorities have commented that they suspect it to be either a short circuit or neglect while handling electrical equipment, but confirmation of this is forthcoming. The police have begun an extensive investigative process to confirm the cause, and assess the entire damage done, as it has again raised concerns of public safety in crowded, busy market areas in Bilaspur.
