On Tuesday, a tragic air accident occurred when a Turkish military cargo airplane crashed in Georgia and all the 20 soldiers on board died. The accident was recorded in the gruesome shots displayed on the social media which had the C-130 aircraft crashing to the ground and disintegrating soon after it began its flight.
Officials claim that the plane had left Azerbaijan and was over Turkey when it crashed towards Georgia-Azerbaijan border. The Defence Minister of Turkey confirmed the deaths by saying; Our heroic comrades-in-arms were martyred on November 11, 2025, when our C-130 military cargo aircraft crashed near the Georgia-Azerbaijan border.
Witnesses said they could see the plane losing its altitude a few seconds after takeoff and exploding into fire. A Turkish investigation team reportedly reached the crash site early Wednesday to commence an in-depth inspection of the crash site which was scattered across a vast space. Early investigations are concentrating in the possible technical fault, weather, or human factor, but no official cause has been identified to date.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in the face of his sadness, said that he was very saddened by the loss of our gallant soldiers and that he was sorry to the families of the soldiers. He then said, God willing, we are going to endure this tragedy with unity and strength.
There was an outpouring of condolence throughout the region and elsewhere. The heads of Azerbaijan and Georgia as well as the Secretary-General of NATO Mark Rutte showed their unity with Turkey in its time of grief. US ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack also expressed his condolences and indicated that Washington was willing to offer all the assistance in the investigation.
The Turkish government has declared that it will have state funerals to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers with the inquiry still underway to establish the cause of the catastrophic crash.
