According to former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, the Rajasthan Royals would make a force to reckon with in the IPL provided the deal between Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson happens. It is being reported that the negotiation of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) has already gone a notch higher with some final details which are still to be completed. Sources also suggest that another player that CSK has been requested by Rajasthan to swap with.
According to reports, Samson who has been captaining the Rajasthan since 2021 is interested in exiting the franchise after the IPL 2025 season. Though the preliminary negotiations between CSK and RR had collapsed, the conversation has now picked up and the deal may see Jadeja back in the team where he joined the team as an IPL player way back in 2008.
In his YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin claimed that the environment in Jaipur would be an ideal match to the all-round skills of Jadeja. Jadeja will be suitable in the wickets at Jaipur. He will reinforce the lower middle order and balance; with bat and ball, as explained by Ashwin. In the case of CSK, acquiring Samson would also prove helpful though they will have to locate a trustworthy finisher during the auction.
Ashwin applauded the consistency of Jadeja to CSK in the previous three seasons in which he had scored 38 wickets in 44 games with an economy rate of 7.9. Ashwin also added that he is one of the best finishers in world cricket. His batting is more than 150 against pace and his left handedness provides versatility. This trade would be a colossal lift to Rajasthan.
But Ashwin had toned the expectations of Jadeja taking over as a captain of Royals, indicating that he is not likely to be presented with the leadership position. Rajasthan is inclined to support younger players and work on leaders of the future. Although Jadeja will have an invaluable experience that will run in tandem, he might not be granted the captaincy, he concluded.
