Most global cricketers start considering retirement after 35 years of age when they are satisfied with the achievements they have made or have to concede with time. But Virat Kohli stands apart. The former India captain turned 37 in November 5, 2025; his hunger still unabated, is defying the laws of aging athletes. Still in the ODIs, the sudden retirement of Kohli in the Test cricket in May, ten months after he pulled out of T20Is, gripped the cricketing world. Everyone thought that the October tour of Australia could be his last in Indian colours. It was reported that the BCCI may very likely implement its domestic participation rule on the participatory aspect of the sport of cricket and this might render the veteran to be unable to remain match fit and thus may force him to retire. His omission on the India A series preceding the tour only compounded the speculation until the chief selector Ajit Agarkar made it clear that the BCCI was yet to decide whether to include Kohli in future ODI plans or not.
After the IPL 2025, Kohli lives in low profile, spending the time with his family in London. He continued to avoid the limelight other than some few public sightings and a charity appearance, and this created speculation over his cricketing future. And back of the scenes the champion batter was preparing to come back.
The last time Kohli played was in the ODI series against Australia and when he returned, he did not seem to be in rhythm at first with consecutive ducks. However, his sparkling unbroken 74 in Sydney complete with trademark cover drives and strong will had shown that his class is timeless. Not only did that knock mute the critics, but it is a reminder to the world that Virat Kohli is not ready to quit; his legacy still shines.
