Two of the inmates of the Gwalior Central Jail in Madhya Pradesh have fled because they did not resume their parole terms, and police are actively searching to locate the two. The two identified as Devendra Singh Solanki, a Dabra resident and Dhara Jatav of Shivpuri were serving life sentences on serious offences such as murder, attempted murder and rape.
Reports indicate that the two prisoners were set on parole on October 18 after providing a surety bond of 30,000 each. The 15 days parole ended on November 2 yet they failed to go back to jail as it is expected. When the prisoners did not even report back after the expiry of the time period of parole, the jail officers immediately reported the issue to Bahodapur Police Station, which is under their jurisdiction.
The Bahodapur police registered a case and gave out a manhunt after the report in order to trace the absconding prisoners. Various teams are already on the field and there is search going on in Gwalior and in the neighboring districts.
There are initial investigations that the two inmates might have thought out their disappearance way beforehand. The government is raiding their potential hideouts and monitoring communication systems in order to track them. The nearby districts have also been alerted by police and their activities are liaised with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that they are arrested as early as possible.
The case has brought into serious concerns the parole monitoring system and security that is offered to high profile convicts. The officials at the jail have launched an investigation into their own ranks and decided to find whether there was negligence or lack of procedure in giving them and following up on their parole.
Solanki and Jatav were both charged with several serious criminal laws, and their escape is potentially dangerous to society. The police have asked the people to reach out and give information on the whereabouts of the fugitives. The warrant is still in search, and there are moves to get the accused arrested in the nearest future.
