Gopichand P. Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group, has passed away in a London hospital. He was 85 years old. Gopichand played a key role in globalizing his family business for nearly six decades. Gopichand Hinduja was born on January 29, 1940. He graduated from Jai Hind College, Bombay. In recognition of his contributions to the fields of law and economics, the University of Westminster and Richmond College, London, awarded him honorary degrees. The passing of Gopichand Hinduja marks the end of an era for the Hinduja Group, one of the most influential and respected business families connecting India and Britain.

Gopichand P. Hinduja, known as “GP” in the business community, was the second-generation head of the Hinduja family empire and chairman of the Hinduja Group and Hinduja Automotive Limited in the UK. He assumed the reins of the group after the death of his elder brother, Srichand Hinduja, in May 2023.

Gopichand Hinduja is married to Sunita Hinduja. They have two sons, Sanjay Hinduja and Dheeraj Hinduja, and a daughter, Rita Hinduja. In 2015, his eldest son, Sanjay Hinduja, married his girlfriend, designer Anu Mahtani, from Udaipur, India. The lavish wedding cost approximately £15 million and was attended by many prominent Bollywood and Hollywood stars.

The late Gopichand Hinduja assumed the role of Chairman in 2023 after the death of his elder brother Srichand Parmanand Hinduja. His family has repeatedly been included among the wealthiest people in Britain’s Sunday Times Rich List. In 2024, their net worth was estimated at approximately £37.2 billion (British Pounds).

The late Gopichand Hinduja lived in London and oversaw the group’s global operations. His younger brother, Prakash Hinduja, lives in Monaco. His youngest brother, Ashok Hinduja, manages the Hinduja Group’s business in India from Mumbai.
