Bilaspur: At least five people were killed and several others injured after a local train collided with a stationary goods train near Bilaspur station in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday afternoon. The collision occurred on the Bilaspur-Katni section, leading to the derailment of multiple coaches and suspension of rail traffic on the route.
Officials said the preliminary investigation indicates that the MEMU local train overshot a signal and crashed into the rear of the goods train. A wave of mourning has spread across the state following the horrific train accident near Lal Khand station in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Several people have died and more than a dozen passengers have been injured in the collision between the Korba passenger train and a goods train. Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel have expressed deep grief following the accident.
Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu wrote on Twitter, “The tragic collision between the Korba passenger train and a freight train in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, is deeply distressing. The news of the loss of life in this accident leaves me deeply saddened. I express my deepest condolences to the departed souls and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao also expressed his condolences. He wrote on Twitter, “Reports have been received regarding a tragic train accident near Bilaspur. Some passengers have also been reported injured in a collision between the Korba passenger train and a freight train. Senior railway officials, rescue teams, and district administration teams have arrived at the scene and are engaged in rescue and relief operations. Administration and railway officials are sending the injured to the hospital for treatment. I pray for the safety of the passengers and a speedy recovery for the injured.”
He said, “I have spoken to senior officials over the phone and directed them to expedite the relief and rescue work. I am in constant contact with the relevant officials involved in the rescue effort.”
