Following a tragic boat capsizing incident in the Bharatpur area on Thursday, rescue operation has been initiated in Bahraich. Officials said disturbed relatives of the missing villagers have gathered on the riverbank, while joint teams of NDRF, SDRF, and local divers are conducting a detailed search for those missing.
The incident took place when a boat with 22 villagers overturned in the river. So far, 13 have been rescued safely, and the body of a woman has been found; but eight still remain missing, including five children.
RN Singh, Superintendent of Police, Bahraich said the villagers were returning from the market when their boat struck a submerged log near the riverbank, causing it to lose balance and capsize. Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has taken note of the incident and directed officials to hasten relief and rescue operations. He also directed that the injured be given the best facilities and medical attention and wished them a speedy recovery.
