Cyclone Montha: Severe cylonic storm Montha left a trail of destruction in Andhra Pradesh, leaving two persons dead and inundating agricultural crops across 87,000 hectares. It also damaged roads, bridges and culverts, and uprooted trees, officials said after a preliminary assessment.
From the overflowing Cumbum lake in Prakasam to uprooted trees in Guntur to stranded trains in Telangana, Cyclone Montha converted vast stretches of civilised land into surging water bodies.
In a recent update by IMD, Cyclone Montha will also impact Chhattisgarh. “Depression [Remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm “Montha”] weakened into a Well Marked Low Pressure area over east Vidarbha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh and (B) Depression over eastcentral Arabian Sea (A) Depression [Remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm “Montha”] weakened into a Well Marked Low Pressure area over east Vidarbha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh”, wrote IMD on X.
Cyclone Montha will wreak havoc in Uttar Pradesh. The major impact of Cyclone Montha can be seen in both the eastern and western divisions of the state. Due to this, heavy rains are expected in 17 districts of the state. While lightning along with thunder and lightning can strike in 30 districts. Gusty winds can also trouble the people of the state today. IMD has also issued an alert regarding this.
According to the Meteorological Department, today there will be heavy rain in Sant Kabir Nagar, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Kaushambi, Mau, Sonbhadra, Ballia, Mirzapur, Deoria, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Pratapgarh, (UP Weather Alert) Chandauli, Ghazipur and Chitrakoot districts. At the same time, thunder and lightning will be heard in 30 districts including Lalitpur, Amethi, Banda, Ayodhya, Mahoba, Kanpur, Jhansi and Rae Bareli. During this, strong winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers.
According to meteorologists, moderate to heavy rain is expected in many districts of the state tomorrow, October 31st (UP Weather Alert). Strong winds will also trouble people during this period. However, the impact will diminish slightly from November 1st. Wednesday’s rain also caused temperatures to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in many districts.
