Following Kharge’s controversial statements which were interpreted as questioning the talent available in Assam and Gujarat for large-scale industrial developments, including semiconductor operations, a war of words has erupted between Congress leader and Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge, and the Assam BJP. Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took strong issue with Kharge’s remarks, suggesting his government would consider a court case against him, for what he claimed was insulting the people of Assam.
In defence of himself and his remarks, Mr Kharge accused CM Sarma of “whitewashing his failures,” and gives them a more political connotation. He called on the CM to consider why so many young Assam residents leave the state simply to find work.
Things escalated more on Tuesday when the Assam BJP pounced on Kharge, mocking him by calling him a “Teddy Boy.” Mr Kharge remarked, earlier, that investments designated to go to Karnataka are being reallocated to the two states by the pressure of the Centre. Kharge’s comments made on Sunday, has spurred a large public outcry, with his critics calling out his disrespect towards other states in India.
