Kaushlendra Vikram Singh, a Collector of Bhopal, went to Hamidia Hospital to meet the victims who were shot by carbide pipe guns, and asked about their health conditions. It is estimated that more than 250 individuals have been injured in Bhopal because of using these harmful homemade weapons. The government has now embarked on a crackdown mission to contain the spread of this threatening trend.

In the recent twist, another alleged suspect by the name Mohammad Taha has been detained in Bhopal with 10 kilograms of carbide and four pipe guns. After this arrest, the administration signed an official proclamation to prohibit the usage, sale, and production of carbide pipe guns in the city. The move followed a drastic increase in the number of incidents and injuries, and the officials were immediately taking late-night action. The court proceedings have been initiated in Section 4, 5, and 9(b) of the Explosives Act, 1884, and Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

These carbide pipe guns are usually constructed with readily available materials, thus posing a significant safety hazard, particularly during celebrations. They are extremely harmful and injurious when they are mishandled or misfired, as they have caused several hospitalizations in the past few weeks.

During that time, the same preventive actions have been taken in Gwalior, where a major order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, by Collector Ruchika Chauhan. The decree outlaws the production, importation, sale, storage, and use of carbide guns or any other dangerous equipment in the district. The relocation is in place of the increasing number of accidents that take place after the Diwali festival.

The governments of Madhya Pradesh are advising people to avoid such potentially hazardous equipment and to consider their safety first. Violators of the ban will face serious prosecution, and this will keep the people safe even during the event of festive season.
