India vs Australia, Adelaide: India began strongly by claiming early dismissals of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, which unsettled Australia early on. But Australia’s middle-order batters, Matt Short and Matt Renshaw formed a critical partnership which slowed India’s momentum momentarily in the chase. India’s top order including Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli fell cheaply, and subsequently the pressure mounted on India’s middle order.

Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer consolidated innings with a 118-run partnership which helped India batting first, post a competitive total. Rohit fought well for his 73 while Shreyas produced a needed score of 61 runs, showing composure under pressure. Axar Patel provided much needed runs at the lower order, and some late fireworks from Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh helped India reach what is considered a reasonable score, given the pitch and conditions in Adelaide.

Australia now must chase the target of 265 runs. India’s luck at the toss continued as a rain affected toss caused Mitchell Marsh to bowl first, which would put pressure on the top order batters immediately to score runs. Australia has made three changes for the second ODI of the three match series. After a rain affected loss in Perth, India is trailing 0-1.
