Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Mahagathbandhan for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The announcement came on Thursday from senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, who spoke with the media in a joint press conference of the INDIA bloc ahead of the Bihar elections.

Gehlot was sent to Patna by the Congress high command a day before to address growing tensions in the grand alliance. Gehlot met with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi at their residence at a time when media reports were surfacing about disagreements among alliance partners regarding some assembly seats and the issue of a “friendly fight” in a few seats.

Gehlot is currently serving as the Senior Election Observer for the AICC and addressed the media, reassuring them that the INDIA bloc is fully intact following conversations in Patna with RJD leaders and Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru. CPI leader Ram Naresh Pandey also affirmed that Tejashwi Yadav is the “future CM” of Bihar and dismissed any controversies over alliance posters. Currently, the Mahagathbandhan is faced with difficulties in about 12 of the seats where different allies have submitted nominations.
