AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has increased his campaign to get four Indian nationals reportedly stranded in Russia and forced to join the war of Russia-Ukraine to come back safely. The names of the people have been determined as Mohammad Ahmad of Hyderabad, Anoop Kumar and Manoj Kumar of Haryana and Sumit Kumar of Rajasthan.

Owaisi, according to his office office revealed that the men were duped by agents who assured them of jobs in Russia, but rather they were pressured into war-zone military-related operations. Mohammad Ahmad, one of them, has also been reported to be wounded on the front lines and sent video messages requesting the assistance of the Indian government and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Owaisi has kept in constant contact with the senior Indian officials, one of whom is the Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, to fast-track their rescue. He himself also visited Miss Tudu Mamu, Counsellor at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, with an appeal to take immediate action. AIMIM, through social media, released a video of Owaisi speaking on the phone with the Foreign Secretary and how he was trying to reassure the frustrated families of the missing persons.

On Sunday, Owaisi personally appealed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to take immediate action in order to rescue the four Indians. Owaisi has been assured of cooperation by the office of the Foreign Secretary and said that efforts were being made to find and send the men back to their homes.

Reminding of the plight of the trapped Indians, Owaisi claimed that the families are living in a state of constant fear since their loved ones are in life-endangering war conditions. The same thing he said was that these men are innocent victims of fraud and that they have to be returned as soon as possible. His plea is also an indication of increasing concern over the reports of Indian citizens being deceived into conflict areas on the false promise of jobs in foreign countries.
