In its comprehensive closure report of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has cleared Rhea Chakraborty by saying that there is no indication that she was involved in abetment, illegal confinement, or threat that caused the death of Sushant. Nevertheless, the family of the deceased actor has disapproved of the report, citing it as an unfinished and eyewash study of closing the case.
Sushant Singh Rajput, who has astonishingly performed in Pavitra Rishta, Kedarnath and Chichchhor, was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. It soon turned out to be one of the most high-profile cases in India and involved several agencies, and was a subject of controversy in the country.
As findings of the CBI revealed, Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik had left the apartment of Sushant in June 8, 2020, and had never gone back to the residence. The report made it clear that all the persons involved in the charges did not remain with or call Sushant from June 8 to June 14. The last communication paper trail was a WhatsApp chat between Sushant and Showik on June 10. At the same time, Sushant had his sister, Meetu Singh, who had stayed with him between June 8 and June 12 as the agency confirmed.
Having purported cases of theft, CBI determined that all that Rhea took with her on her departure was her Apple laptop and wrist watch, the latter offered as a present by Sushant. No evidence was given that Sushant was misappropriating any property or finances.
The relationship also came into the limelight of the report, as Rhea and Sushant had been in a live-in relationship from April 2019 to June 2020. However, unlike the allegations by the father of Sushant, the financier of the actor was his chartered accountant and lawyer. The CBI pointed out that Sushant had informed his flatmate, Siddharth Pithani, that Rhea was part of the family, which emphasised the intimacy they had before they separated.
