The South East Central Railway (SECR) has introduced 170 trips of Festival Special Express trains and MEMU/Passenger trains in view of the upcoming festive season in order to ensure that passengers enjoy convenience. Besides, 223 special trains, which are run by other railway sectors, will also traverse the jurisdiction of SECR, which will offer an added comfort to passengers within the area.

To accommodate the demand and provide smooth operations, the SECR has improved its monitoring systems. It has installed a 24/7 real-time surveillance system by having War Rooms at the headquarters and different departments. It is the duty of these War Rooms to closely supervise the activities of the stations, and special officials are present on duty to ensure the smooth movement of people. In addition, security measures have been enhanced, and CCTV cameras have been placed on major stations at all times so as to be able to keep an eye on the stations to maintain security and normal running of activities during the festive season.

In order to manage the increased traffic during the festivals, SECR has created special holding zones in important stations such as Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Gondia, Itwari, Raigarh and Shahdol. The zones which are created are aimed at giving temporary relief to the passengers and reducing congestion. One such example is that two special holding areas have been developed at Bilaspur Station to handle the extra rush of passengers. There are provisions such as food, drinking water, seating arrangements, and other critical facilities in these areas to make the waiting time of travellers very comfortable.

The General Manager of the South East Central Railway, Tarun Prakash, stressed the need for such measures, particularly in Bilaspur Station. In order to serve the proper operations of these programs, a group of committed employees is appointed to fulfil the role of managing the crowd and supporting passengers. This is in advance so as to offer a safe and hassle-free journey to the passengers during the festive season.
