Jodhpur bus fire: At least 21 were killed while several others were critically injured after a private bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire on Tuesday. The bus, carrying 57 passengers, had left Jaisalmer at around 3 pm on Tuesday. While travelling on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway, smoke was observed emerging from the rear of the vehicle. The driver immediately stopped the bus on the roadside, but within moments, it was engulfed in flames.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a Rs 2 lakh compensation for the victims’ families.
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma wrote on his official X account, “the incident of the bus fire in Jaisalmer is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to the citizens affected by this tragic accident. The concerned officials have been instructed to ensure proper treatment of the injured and provide all possible assistance to those affected. May Lord Shri Ram grant the departed souls a place in His feet. The state government stands with the affected families and is committed to providing them with all possible assistance”.
Police said the bus, carrying 57 passengers, left Jaisalmer around 3 pm. On the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur highway, smoke began emerging from the rear portion. The driver stopped the bus along the roadside, but within moments, the flames engulfed the vehicle.
