Raipur: 32 lakh ration card holders in Chhattisgarh will no longer receive rations as the state government has cancelled the ration cards of these beneficiaries. Food Department Secretary Reena Baba Saheb Kangale said, “These people have not been coming to collect rations for the past year, nor have they completed their KYC. Ration will be provided again once the KYC is completed.” He said, “There are approximately 95 lakh ration card-holding families in the state. There are 2 crore 73 lakh ration beneficiaries, out of which the ration cards of 32 lakh people have been suspended.”
Ration card holders in Chhattisgarh have long been urged to complete e-KYC. The Food Department has made e-KYC mandatory to weed out fraudulent beneficiaries. Despite this, 3.2 million beneficiaries in the state have not yet completed e-KYC. It is believed that most of these ration cards may be fake. To crack down on such fraudulent beneficiaries, those who do not complete e-KYC before October 31st will not receive free rations starting in November.
The process of E-KYC is very easy
It’s important to note that e-KYC isn’t a difficult process. If four members on a ration card need to have their cards e-KYCed, each member will need to take their Aadhaar cards to the ration shop in their area. There, their Aadhaar cards will be initially verified, along with their biometrics. Once the biometrics match, the e-KYC process will be complete.
Ration is being snatched from the public, this is a complete conspiracy: Congress
Regarding the cancellation of 3.2 million ration cards in Chhattisgarh, Congress communications chief Sushil Anand Shukla said, “Approximately 3.2 million families will not receive rations starting in November. The government claims these families haven’t completed their KYC verification. Whose responsibility is this: the government, the Food Department, or the ration shop operators? After the government changed, the Food Minister and Chief Minister had their photos added to ration cards. Everyone was asked for Aadhaar cards at that time, meaning KYC verification had already been completed. Now, in the name of KYC, rations are being snatched from the public again, which is a complete conspiracy.”
