There was a shocking twist to the story when a Haryana police officer was discovered dead on Tuesday in Rohtak following the suicide of another officer several days after the initial one and it cast serious concerns over the alleged harassment and internal problems in the police. The victim is the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) called Sandeep Kumar. His corpse had been found in a tiny room in a village called Ladhot, Rohtak.

They say that ASI Kumar left behind a final note that he was being harassed by IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The note supposedly reflected complaints on the discrimination and mistreatment based on caste in the police department. The notes which are circulating in the social media are being verified by SP Rohtak Surendra Singh Bhoria. These have become viral on the social media. Right now, a forensic investigation is being conducted and we will tell you more, he replied.

When ASI Sandeep Kumar died, he was in the cyber cell and had worked in the SP office before. He was an officer who had earned the respect of his colleagues as he was described by SP Bhoria as a hardworking and honest officer. Forensic team has been invited here and an investigation is underway, he added.

This happens after the suicide of a 2001-batch IPS officer Y Puran Kumar who died on 7 October. Kumar had claimed in his own “final note” to be harassed and discriminated against on caste grounds by a number of senior officers and named people like Kapur and Bijarniya as having contributed to his emotional turmoil.

Police are currently examining the possibility of any relation between the killings and has provided an assurance to do a deep investigation into the 2 cases. These incidences have increased questioning the Haryana police department which is being raised in uproar and concern of the working conditions and the psychological state of police in the state.
