A regular cleaning exercise had become a horror experience on Tuesday morning when officers found a dead body in a pool during a municipal sanitation exercise. As a routine maintenance exercise, the municipal council team had been clearing water hyacinth in the Banda pond using a JCB machine. In the time of taking away the thick plants, the workers suddenly saw the body of a person in the hyacinth lying on top.

The corpse was observed when the municipal staff came under the assumption that they had halted the cleaning exercise, and immediately reported the case to the local police. The police team arrived at the location as soon as possible and, assisted by the workers, recovered the body from the water. Later on, the deceased was found to be Kamal Singh Thakur, who lived in Kondagaon. His corpse is taken to the district hospital, and the post-mortem is done.

Santosh, a municipal worker who was available at the time, said that an object which did not look like a weed was observed half underwater. As they looked closer, they realised that it was a body, and then they immediately informed the authorities. The information was also communicated to the family members of the deceased, along with the police, and they arrived at the scene soon after.

The police officials further pointed out that the actual cause of death would only be found out after receiving the autopsy report. Currently, policemen are attempting to ascertain whether the man drowned accidentally or by foul play. The discovery has brought about a lot of panic and speculation in the locality.

The police have initiated an intensive investigation, and they are also studying every conceivable line of inquiry, which includes how long the body can have been in the water and whether the body was injured in any way. Testimonies of witnesses, relatives, and city employees are being logged down to assemble the situation that was involved in the case.
