This year, the auspicious Ravi-Pushya Nakshatra will fall on Tuesday, October 14th, just before Diwali. Believed to be an extremely favorable time for new acquisitions, the Nakshatra will begin at 11:54 am on Tuesday and last until 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, October 15th. Religious traditions hold that purchasing goods during this period brings great prosperity.

According to religious scriptures, Jupiter (the guru of the god) is the presiding deity of Pushya Nakshatra. However, Saturn is also the ruling planet of this nakshatra. Jupiter’s influence enhances the qualities of this nakshatra. Therefore, worshipping both Jupiter and Saturn during Pushya Nakshatra is considered beneficial. According to some beliefs, Lord Krishna and Goddess Lakshmi were also born during Pushya Nakshatra, so they are also worshipped as the god and goddess of this auspicious occasion. During the auspicious time of Pushya Nakshatra, one should purchase new clothes and religious items and bring them home. Additionally, one should install a Vyapar Vriddhi Yantra or Shri Yantra at home and recite the Shri Sukta either by oneself or by an Acharya Pandit.

Theologian and Sanskrit scholar Pt. Chandrabhushan Shukla said, “Pushya Nakshatra is considered the most fortunate and auspicious in astrology because it means ‘nourisher.’ It is also known as the king of the constellations. Purchasing new things, undertaking construction, and other auspicious activities during this nakshatra brings success and lasting prosperity.”

According to experts, whenever Pushya Nakshatra falls, shopping and other activities are considered auspicious. However, Ravi Pushya Yoga and Guru Pushya Yoga are considered very auspicious. When Pushya Nakshatra falls on Sunday, Ravi-Pushya Yoga is formed, which is considered very fruitful for tantra-mantra, initiation, and medicine preparation. When Pushya Nakshatra falls on Thursday, Guru-Pushya Yoga is formed, which is best for new establishments, financial transactions, purchasing vehicles, land, buildings, gold, silver, and electronic goods.

Purchasing these items will be auspicious

Purchasing valuables like gold, silver, jewelry, vehicles, electronic equipment, new ledgers, and houses during Pushya Nakshatra is considered auspicious. It’s also an auspicious time to start a new business, sign major contracts, and conduct financial transactions. Inaugurating construction projects like a building, temple, school, or dispensary is also considered auspicious during this Nakshatra. On the Pushya Nakshatra, one should light a ghee lamp in front of Goddess Lakshmi, observe a fast, wear yellow clothes, and chant the Guru mantra, “Om Graan Greem Groun Sah Guruvai Namah.”
