Chandigarh: As the weather clears in Punjab, cases of stubble burning are once again on the rise. A total of 116 cases have been reported so far, with Amritsar district leading the way. The government and the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) are taking strict action against those burning stubble.
Twenty-one new cases of stubble burning were reported on Friday and Saturday, bringing the total to 116. Amritsar district reported the highest number of cases, with 62. The PPCB and the government have intensified action against those burning stubble.
So far this season, a total of ₹2.75 lakh fines have been imposed in 57 cases, of which ₹2.20 lakh has been recovered. FIRs have been filed in 60 cases under Section 223 of the CrPC, and 38 red entries have been registered.
Amritsar has reported the highest number of cases at 62, followed by Tarn Taran with 21, Patiala with 10, Barnala with 3, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fazilka, Ferozepur, and Jalandhar with 1 each, Kapurthala with 3, Malerkotla with 4, Hoshiarpur with 2, Sangrur with 3, and SAS Nagar with 1.
Punjab Stubble Burning Case: For 10 days, starting September 30th, Punjab hadn’t reported a single case of stubble burning. A few days of rain during this period brought relief to the government and the PPCB. However, as soon as the weather cleared, stubble burning resumed. Seven new cases were reported on Friday and 14 on Saturday.
