There is a lot of enthusiasm in the observance of Karwa Chauth 2025, which is being celebrated in India. The festival mood can be observed in the markets and shopping malls where women are observed buying traditional clothes, jewels, cosmetics, and pooja materials in anticipation of the celebration. This year, the hype is higher among newly married celebrity couples this is their first Karwa Chauth, which gives a glamorous touch to the event.
On this auspicious day, married women wear bridal-style dresses and mostly opt to wear red sarees or lehengas with vermillion bangles, glass bangles, bindis, and heavy jewelry. They use nirjala fast, a fast of neither food nor water, between the day of sunrise and moonrise, as they pray that their husbands will be healthy, happy, and live long. The culture is based on love, faith, and intergenerational cultural values.

Karwa Chauth preparations are normally made some days before. Women buy puja thalis, cones of mehndi, cosmetics, and gifts, and families assist in organizing sargi, the pre-dawn meal provided by mothers-in-law. All day long, they perform rituals, do mehndi, tell about the meaning of the festival, and gather in the evening with other women to perform the puja.
According to the Hindu calendar, the Chaturthi Tithi of Karwa Chauth 2025 starts at 10:54 pm on October 9 and ends at 7:38 pm on October 10. The most favourable time to pray to the moon, which is called Chandratith, is between 5:57 PM and 7.07 PM on October 10. Women usually do not fast until they see the moon, and they conduct the puja using a sieve and water, after which their spouses bless them.
