World Mental Health Day serves as a powerful reminder that there is no health without mental health. This year’s campaign focuses on the urgent need to support the mental health and psychosocial needs of people affected by humanitarian emergencies.
Crises such as natural disasters, conflicts, and public health emergencies cause emotional distress, with one in five individuals experiencing a mental health condition. WHO also shared that annually, more than 727,000 lives are lost to suicide, annually. Behind each number is a story cut short. We aimed for a 33% reduction in deaths by 2030, but progress is just 12%. This is a crisis.
On World Mental Health Day, actress Deepika Padukone celebrated the 10th anniversary of her foundation, Live Love Laugh, which plays a vital role in raising awareness and supporting mental health across the country.Deepika Padukone, who has been a strong voice for mental health for the past 10 years, spoke candidly at the event about her journey and the foundation’s impact. This visit wasn’t just a celebration of the foundation’s success, but also a reaffirmation of her dedication to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health in the country.
When asked at the event if she ever felt she had to pay a price for demanding what she believed was right, Deepika Padukone replied, “I’ve done this on many levels; it’s nothing new to me. I think even with things like payment, I’ve had to deal with whatever I got. I don’t know what to call it, but I always fight my battles quietly, and for some strange reason, sometimes they become public, which isn’t my style, nor was I brought up like that. But yes, fighting my battles and doing it quietly and with dignity is my way.”
