Two Indian Army Para Commandos went missing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday night. They lost contact with the army during a search operation in the Gadul area. Army officials said a massive rescue operation, involving helicopters and local assistance, was launched after the soldiers were found missing. The two soldiers, belonging to the 5 Para unit, disappeared amid heavy rain in the dense forests of Gadul. It’s worth noting that three Army officers were killed by terrorists last year in the same area where the soldiers disappeared.

According to media reports, both Para soldiers are Agniveers. There is no suspected terrorist connection to their disappearance. A search is underway between Kishtwar and Anantnag. Military officials suspect the soldiers may have gotten lost in the dense forest. Drones have been flown to locate them. It is not yet known whether the soldiers are together or have wandered off in different directions.

Earlier on the intervening night of October 6 and 7, an operational team from White Chinar Corps on Kishtwar range confronted a severe snowstorm and white out conditions in the mountains of South Kashmir, informed Chinar Corps. During the operation, Subedar Shailendra Singh Chauhan sacrificed his life while on operational duty. “His courage and dedication will forever inspire us. Chinar Warriors salute the valour and sacrifice of the Braveheart. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and are committed to their well-being”, wrote Chinar Corps on X.

Meanwhile, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) has launched a major crackdown against terrorists in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation is being conducted in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Sopore, and Bandipora, in connection with cases related to incitement to terrorist violence, terrorist funding, and terrorist recruitment in Kashmir. Searches are also underway in Baramulla and Rafiabad in North Kashmir.
