Snowfall in the higher parts of Himachal Pradesh occurred on the third day on Tuesday and in the middle and lower parts, there was an intermittent light to medium rainfall that caused temperatures in the entire state to plummet drastically, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Heavy snowfall was witnessed in some places in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti. Gondla was with 26.5 cm, Keylong with 20 cm and Kukumseri with 5.6 mm. The Pangi part of the Chamba district was the first to receive the season-snow, the more elevated parts, Sural, Kumar, Sudan, Seichu, Shoon, Udhin, and Chasak, being covered with snow. The heavy snowfall halted the normalcy in the area, and the local authorities recommended that people and tourists should not travel to the higher places as the roads were too slippery, and visibility was low.
The IMD also gave a yellow alert of heavy rain, thunderstorm, lightning, and strong winds in isolated areas in Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu districts as well issued warnings of heavy rain or snow with strong winds in Lahaul and Spiti. It was also forecasted that on Wednesday and Thursday the department predicted light rain in mid and lower hills and light rain or snow in upper regions and then dry spell.
Some of the parts of the state were noteworthy in terms of rainfall since Monday evening Kukumseri (56.7 mm), Kasauli (42.8 mm), Nahan (41.6 mm) and Poanta Sahib (37.4 mm) were some of the highest. Shimla, Kangra and Jubbarhatti recorded thunderstorms and gusty winds were experienced in Narkanda, Kufri, Kotkhai, and Dhaulakuan.
The cold became more intense with minimum temperatures three to seven degrees lower than normal, and Keylong was the lowest with minus 0.5 0 C.
