On Tuesday, the Election Commission of India declared that it was going to publish the final electoral roll in Bihar before the coming assembly elections. The new roll reflects all the claims and objections to the draft roll as notified by the time the draft roll was first published in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

The Electoral Officer of Bihar posted the news on the official Facebook page of the state and mentioned the Election Commission. Following the Special Intensive Revision, the last published electoral roll is that of September 30, 2025. Individuals have the opportunity to check their names, visiting voters.eci.gov.in, the post said. The final electoral roll state-wide statistics are awaited.

Draft numbers put the overall number of registered voters in Bihar at 7.24 crore following the deletion of around 65 lakh names that were marked as absent, shifted or dead. The administration in the Patna district indicated that the final list comprises 48.15 lakh voters in 14 assembly segments, which is an increment of 1.63 lakh voters since the draft roll was issued on August 1. The number of female voters in the district (22.75 lakh) is the highest in Digha constituency (4.56 lakh electors).

The electoral roll is finalised earlier, before the probable announcement of the Bihar assembly elections. The SIR exercise, which the Election Commission intends to carry out across the nation, has raised controversy. Opposition parties, some of which have gone to the Supreme Court, complain that SIR has been out to delete names of voters deemed unlikely to support the ruling BJP-led NDA.

Nonetheless, BJP leaders, among them the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, justified the exercise saying that there was a need to eliminate infiltrators who were being shielded by the opposition parties. The new electoral roll will likely be a major factor in Bihar.
