On Tuesday morning, an IndiGo plane flying between Mumbai and Delhi was reported to have a bomb threat on board, which has been confirmed by the authorities. The aircraft (6E 762) had around 200 people on board when security agencies raised the alarm about the threat. According to the sources, it was a non-specific warning, and there was no immediate information about the nature of the threat and its credibility.
To counter this, a complete emergency protocol was implemented at the Delhi airport to maintain the safety of passengers and the crew. Security guards were sent out to do extensive inspections, and emergency response teams were placed on alert as the plane headed towards the national capital. The incident led to increased security within the airport, such as checking of facilities within the airport, and bomb disposal units were used as a preventive measure.
This landing occurred on the data of flight tracking provided by Flightradar24 on flight 6E 762, which was flown on an Airbus A321neo aircraft and landed safe at 7:53 am. Reportedly, passengers remained calm throughout the procedure, and the airport authorities, in collaboration with the airline and security agencies, worked in tandem to make sure that the landing was safe and orderly.
IndiGo is yet to issue a formal announcement on the bomb threat and on the emergency response efforts. The airport officials should have a thorough investigation of the incident, which includes checking communication logs and CCTV recordings, to determine whether the threat was a real threat or it is a false alarm.
Although nothing went wrong or no acts of violence were mentioned during the flight, the alert is a reminder of the need to have stringent security measures on commercial aviation. Travellers are encouraged to be more alert and report any suspicious behaviour since safety and security remain paramount issues in airlines and other airports. IndiGo and Delhi airport officials are awaiting updates on the threat investigation.
