Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa A showed great pride when Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised their success in the 126 th episode of Mann Ki Baat. The officers became known as having successfully accomplished the outstanding sailing mission, Navika Sagar Parikrama II, a worldwide circumnavigation tour made in the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini.

In the speech, the PM Modi remarked how two valiant Indian Navy experts have exhibited courage and resolve in the Navika Sagar Parikrama. These two bold officers I would like to present to the listeners of Mann Ki Baat. Lieutenant Commander Dilna, and Lieutenant Commander Roopa are one and the other.

Talking of the recognition, Lieutenant Commander Dilna K wrote that it was a moment of great honour to her and Roopa. She pointed to the collaboration that they had built as they spent much more time at sea than on land. It demonstrates the extent to which our country is appreciative of people who are ready to go to the extreme, embark on adventures, and will be the face of India and the Indian Armed Forces. And we wanted to say something like this, that, any kind of dream, can be reached, provided that you devote your body, mind, and soul to it, she said.

In 2021, the two officers volunteered to do the mission and spent three years preparing the expedition. Offloaded at the Naval Ocean Sailing Node, Goa, on October 2, 2024–the day of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi–the mission is expected to cover about 50,000 km in eight months, spanning four continents, three oceans, and three Great Capes. They depended on the power of a sail and the wind, they survived in the severe weather and dangerous seas.

Lieutenant Commander Roopa A reported about the experience of sharing their journey on Mann Ki Baat as a privilege and a special experience and an honour to represent not only India but also the Indian Navy.
