Following the high-profile arrest of a Naxalite couple in Raipur, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) has now nabbed another urban Naxal operative in Korba. The suspect, who was Rama Icha, worked at a coal mine and was a member of multiple labour groups. His arrest has brought forth great associations with the earlier arrested Naxalite couple- Jaggu Kursam, also known as Ramesh, and his wife Kamla Kursam, both of Changorabhata, Raipur.
The officials claimed that Rama was in constant contact with the couple, and they argued that he had visited them a number of times in Raipur and Korba. They have also been reported to conduct financial transactions. He was brought before the Bilaspur NIA court on Saturday evening, and he has been remanded to be interrogated. Also, two others are being held under anonymous questioning after being subjected to technical surveillance, but they have not been arrested yet.
Inquiries indicate that Jaggu and Kamla kept on shifting places so as to remain unnoticed. They always remained in a single place not longer than three months. They would transfer to new hideouts in the urban areas, sometimes back to Bastar, and then to new ones again. Jaggu is also accused of harbouring some of the top Naxal leaders in slum areas of Raipur and even of offering logistical assistance.
The couple had been arrested in a joint operation by SIB, SIA and DD Nagar Police on the night of September 23, in Changorabhata. The authorities recognised Jaggu and Kamla as members of the Divisional Committee (DVC) of Bhairamgarh and members of the Area Committee. Both had been staying undercover in Raipur during the last three to four years.
Early research also showed that Jaggu had done different jobs in order to hide his identity. He worked as a security guard in various homes, temporarily in a poultry farm and eventually undertook labour jobs at construction sites. His movement covered a variety of places.
