During an extensive raid led by the Union Home Ministry under the name of the Drug Destruction Campaign, almost 15 tons of contraband narcotics of value 8 crore in the global market were burnt in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh. The huge consignment which contained contraband drugs like doda chura, opium, ganja, smack, mephedrone (MD) and charas, was burnt at very high temperatures in the boiler of the UltraTech Cement factory at Khore, Neemuch. The approach was selected because it was necessary to make the disposal process not harm the environment.

The confiscated narcotics was a fruit of the anti-trafficking efforts conducted by the police forces of seven districts in the Ujjain Zone, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ujjain, Shajapur, Dewas, and Agar-Malwa, in the last few months. Drug trafficking has always been a problem to the law enforcing agencies in this area, particularly Neemuch and Mandsaur where opium farming is notorious.

To make the process transparent and secure, the whole destruction process was carried out with close attention of senior officials. Present were two DIG-rank officers of Ujjain and Ratlam zones and the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam and Ujjain. Massive deployment of police was also organized to supervise the process.

Ratlam Range DIG Nimish Agrawal has said that the move is a significant setback to the network of drug traffickers that are based in the area. He pointed out that the exercise was aimed at making sure the seized narcotics are disposed safely and permanently to guarantee that they do not find their way in the illegal market again.

This campaign sparked off the efforts that the government is still trying to put efforts to ward off drug trafficking and the supply chain within the regions where narcotics are produced. Under a close watch and with the presence of top officials, the drive sends a strong message of narcotics being intolerated in Madhya Pradesh.
